Are you ready to put your engineering skills to the test and tackle real-world challenges in digital power technologies? This Industrial Challenge invites teams to dive into Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and show how modern development workflows can drive innovation in fields like renewable energy, smart grids, microgrids, electrified transportation, and others using the TyphoonSim simulator (complete Guidelines can be found at the end of this page).
Your mission: design, validate, and implement control and optimization strategies using MBE principles: from early-stage modeling to real-time implementation. Whether you're passionate about AI-driven control, embedded systems, power electronics, or energy systems, this is your chance to shine.
Teams can build on their ongoing research (including papers presented at SEPOC 2025) or expand on existing examples from the Typhoon HIL Control Center, as long as they push the boundaries and bring meaningful new contributions to the table.
Join us in this challenge and get the chance to learn, grow, and showcase your work to an expert audience. Top teams will receive awards, recognition at the SEPOC banquet, and the opportunity to win a complete HIL Teaching Station for their university.
Participants are invited to form teams of up to 5 members.
Teams can select any topic covered by SEPOC 2025 as their research or application
theme in this challenge.
Open to undergraduate, master's, PhD students, post-docs, young professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts.
Knowledge of electrical engineering, control systems, power electronics, embedded systems, or industrial automation is beneficial but not mandatory, as well as familiarity with simulation tools.
Authors who are preparing a paper for SEPOC 2025 are encouraged to integrate
TyphoonSim in their work and also participate in the Challenge.
Teams must use TyphoonSim for testing and validation of their proposal.
Please check the complete Guidelines, challenge format, and evaluation criteria in the "Challenge Format and Evaluation Criteria" at the end of this page or through the link: General Guidelines.
