CBA 2026 Industrial Challenge

Register your team for a chance to win!

Challenge Overview

Are you ready to put your engineering skills to the test and tackle real-world challenges in digital power technologies? This Industrial Challenge invites teams to dive into Model-Based Engineering (MBE) and show how modern development workflows can drive innovation in fields like renewable energy, electric mobility, and smart grids using the TyphoonSim simulator.

Your mission is to develop and demonstrate innovative solutions to power electronics and/or power systems problems (e.g., analysis, control, diagnosis, test automation, optimization) using a model-based engineering approach. Whether you're passionate about advanced control of power converters, smart energy management, or fault detection, this is your chance to shine.

Teams can build on their ongoing research—including papers being prepared for CBA 2026—as long as they incorporate digital-power analysis and bring meaningful new contributions to the table.

Join us in this challenge and get the chance to learn, grow, and showcase your work to an expert audience. Top teams will receive cash prizes, recognition during CBA 2026, and the opportunity to win a Typhoon HIL HIL101 simulator and HIL TI Launchpad Interface for their academic institution.

Eligibility

  • Participants are invited to form teams of up to 5 members.

  • Teams can select any topic covered by CBA 2026's Call for Papers as their research or application theme in this challenge.

  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students, young professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts.

  • Knowledge in electrical engineering, power and/or control systems, and computation is recommended, as well as familiarity with simulation tools.

  • Authors who are preparing a paper for CBA 2026 are encouraged to integrate TyphoonSim in their work and also participate in the Challenge.

Important: Please make sure at least one team member is registered for CBA 2026 by the start of the conference on October 6. Keep in mind that only registered team members will be allowed to take part in the in‑person competition activities.

At least one member of the team must complete the free Typhoon HIL specialization courses and become a HIL Specialist by the end of the challenge.

General Guidelines

  • Teams must use TyphoonSim for testing and validation of their proposal.

  • Each team must submit a white paper (max 2 pages) in IEEE format, simulation files from TyphoonSim, codes/scripts, and a short video (max 5 minutes) in English or Portuguese explaining the solution.

  • Please check the complete Guidelines, deliverable formats, and evaluation criteria in the official documentation.

Timeline

  • Registration Opens: June 13

  • Submission Deadline: August 30

  • Evaluation Phase: September 07-16

  • Finalists Announced: September 16

  • Finalists' Presentations: During CBA 2026 (preferably in-person)

Registration Fee

Participation is free, but at least one member of the team must be registered at the CBA 2026 conference by the beginning of the event. The mandatory HIL Specialist course is also free of charge.
